Data sources & methodology

BizComp brings Belgian public company information together in one readable workspace. This page explains where the data comes from, how it is processed and where caution is needed.

01

CBE / KBO company register

Legal identity, status, addresses, activities, establishment units and mandates originate from Belgium's Crossroads Bank for Enterprises. Labels are paired with the official code tables in French, Dutch and, where available, English.

02

NBB annual accounts

Financial statements come from filings published through the National Bank of Belgium. XBRL values are read directly. Older or image-based PDF filings require layout-aware text extraction and OCR-assisted heuristics.

03

Missing revenue is not zero revenue

Some Belgian entities, including many small businesses, are not required to disclose revenue. BizComp treats an absent or source-placeholder zero as unavailable: charts omit it and tables display a dash. Other legitimately reported zero-valued fields remain zero.

04

PDF extraction and reprocessing

Historical scans vary greatly in quality. The extractor combines text layers, table geometry, OCR fallbacks, accounting-code validation and cross-field consistency checks. Extraction versions are tracked so older filings can be refreshed in the background when improved logic becomes available.

05

Freshness and limitations

Source publication, register imports and financial refreshes do not happen at the same time. Dates shown on company and filing records should be used to assess freshness. Automated extraction can still misread degraded scans, and public registers can contain delayed or incomplete records.

06

Interpretation and corrections

BizComp is an information and analysis tool, not legal, tax, credit or investment advice. Important decisions should be checked against the original filing or register. If you identify an issue, include the enterprise number, financial year and source document when contacting us.
